Disposal of bisphenol A bottles becomes after-ban safety issue

Mountain Equipment Co-op, the trendy sporting-goods retailer, was the first company to pull polycarbonate plastic bottles from its shelves back in December.Now it has a problem: what to do with thousands of the bottles, made from bisphenol A, an estrogen-mimicking chemical that Health Canada and Environment Canada are proposing to add to the country’s list of toxic substances.
